Summary

Six teens murdered。 A suspect behind bars。 A desperate father。 In a case this shadowy, the truth is easy to hide。

Psychiatrist Dr。 Gwen Moore is an expert on killers。 She’s spent a decade treating California’s most depraved predators and unlocking their motives—predators much like the notorious Bloody Heart serial killer, whose latest teenage victim escaped and then identified local high school teacher Randall Thompson as his captor。 The case against Thompson as the Bloody Heart Killer is damning—and closed, as far as Gwen and the media are concerned。 If not for one new development…

Defense attorney Robert Kavin is a still-traumatized father whose own son fell prey to the BH Killer。 Convinced of Thompson’s innocence, he steps in to represent him。 Now Robert wants Gwen to interview the accused, create a psych profile of the killer and his victims, and help clear his client’s name。

As Gwen and Robert grow closer and she dives deeper into the investigation, grave questions arise。 So does Gwen’s suspicion that Robert is hiding something—and that he might not be the only one with a secret。

Six teenagers dead。 Finally, the killer behind bars。 But are the games just beginning?

Sylvie Rochon

A suspenseful thrillerA different genre for this, author but no less brilliant! It is a tale of 6 teenaged boys murders, a psychologist who specializes in violence, a grief stricken father and the untanglement of this case, the BH Killer。 It is suspenseful, has twists, secrets and an outcome that is surprising!

One crucial detail leading the the unfolding of the plot didn’t seem plausible to me *shrug*

Six teenage boys are murdered by The Bloody Heart Killer。 A seventh boy escapes and names one of his high school teachers as his kidnapper。 High profile Defense Attorney Robert Kavin decides to offer his pro bono services to defend the accused high school teacher and hires Psychiatrist Gwen Moore to do a profile on The Bloody Heart Killer since she specializes in treating people with violent tendencies。 Here's the kicker, Robert Kavin is also the father of the sixth Bloody Heart Killer victim。 S Six teenage boys are murdered by The Bloody Heart Killer。 A seventh boy escapes and names one of his high school teachers as his kidnapper。 High profile Defense Attorney Robert Kavin decides to offer his pro bono services to defend the accused high school teacher and hires Psychiatrist Gwen Moore to do a profile on The Bloody Heart Killer since she specializes in treating people with violent tendencies。 Here's the kicker, Robert Kavin is also the father of the sixth Bloody Heart Killer victim。 So what is his motive for defending him?The Good Lie is a quick and compulsive read that I gobbled up in a day。 I loved the premise and the way the pieces of the puzzle came together in the end。 The characters and their morals were definitely questionable, but they weren't unlikable。 So why not 5 stars? For me, there was a major driver of the plot that really required me to suspend belief。 This was my first A。R。 Torre book, but it definitely won't be my last。 Looking forward to working my way through her previous books。 4 stars。 。。。more

It was just O。K。 Ending was a bit bizarre - just seemed like an ending that had no basis in any of the story prior to it。

A one night read! Plot twist characters etc are solid 4 stars, but there’s something I can’t quite put my finger on that made The Good Lie so unputdownable! So for the fact that I stayed up until AM to see how things unravel, I gotta give this one ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Well I can say I officially love everything written by this woman!! This book broke me out of my reading slump (3 DNFs in a row!😫) and brought me back to my love of thrillers。 The only problem is that I now must wait for her to write another 😭

O。K。 ReadStrictly O。K。 Book。 Good plot but terrible writing skills。The attraction between leads characters felt forced。Worth a inflight read but nothing more。

Goosebumps。 Literal goosebumps。 A mishmash of psychoanalysis and criminology, there's enough happening in the story to keep you hooked but never too much to put you off your lunch。 Fast paced, balanced, gory thriller that's absolutely worth a read。 Goosebumps。 Literal goosebumps。 A mishmash of psychoanalysis and criminology, there's enough happening in the story to keep you hooked but never too much to put you off your lunch。 Fast paced, balanced, gory thriller that's absolutely worth a read。 。。。more

This book had me hooked from the very beginning and I didn’t want it to end, so many twists and turns along the way I couldn’t put it down

The thing about psychological thrillers and murder mysteries is that the build up is just as important as the ending。 This one nailed it。 A very entertaining book that kept me hooked until the very end。 The story didn't have major twists as such, like most thrillers, but it was good enough and not nearly disappointing。The characters were good, the story wasn't stretched unnecessarily and most importantly there wasn't an out of place, out of context, romantic subplot。 The thing about psychological thrillers and murder mysteries is that the build up is just as important as the ending。 This one nailed it。 A very entertaining book that kept me hooked until the very end。 The story didn't have major twists as such, like most thrillers, but it was good enough and not nearly disappointing。The characters were good, the story wasn't stretched unnecessarily and most importantly there wasn't an out of place, out of context, romantic subplot。 。。。more

3。5/5 STARS ⭐️This was a real pageturner, just how I like my thrillers! However, in the middle it got kind of slow but it never made me lose interest。 The conclusion to the mystery was very well put together and it kept me guessing until it was finally revealed。 I did really enjoy this!

I feel as if I must preface my review with the fact that mysteries and thrillers are not typically my first pick when it comes to a favorite genre。 I have also never read anything written by A。R。 Torre。 Having said that, this book took me by complete surprise。 I had no expectations going into this book and found myself immediately immersed in the story。 A serial killer nicknamed the "Bloody Heart Killer" has already killed (6) young boys, and it is discovered that one of the victims has escaped。 I feel as if I must preface my review with the fact that mysteries and thrillers are not typically my first pick when it comes to a favorite genre。 I have also never read anything written by A。R。 Torre。 Having said that, this book took me by complete surprise。 I had no expectations going into this book and found myself immediately immersed in the story。 A serial killer nicknamed the "Bloody Heart Killer" has already killed (6) young boys, and it is discovered that one of the victims has escaped。 This immediately gave me vibes of "Kiss the Girls" but。。。with boys。 Who is the BH killer? Why choose these particular victims and hold them for 7-8 weeks before disposing of the bodies? Honestly, how does this premise not draw anyone into the story immediately。 On top of all that, you have a psychiatrist who deals with volatile clients。 Dr。 Moore is brought into this story when she runs into handsome attorney Robert Kavin at a local dive bar after a funeral。 He just happens to be the father of one of the victims, and the story just takes off from there。 The entire book was a quick read, but well-paced。 There were a few flaws that I scratched my head at and had to question why it was written that way, but I was willing to ignore those and appreciate the story for what it was。 Check it out if you are looking for a quick read! 。。。more

This book is amazing! I love a good mystery, even better if there’s a psychological edge to it。 A brilliantly written “who done it”! I don’t want to ruin anything about this story, just read it! I love this author。 She can write a romance with dirty words and sexy characters but boy oh boy do I love her mysteries! Pick up any of her books, you won’t be sorry!Enjoy!

All these questions and more are answered in the compelling read。If you enjoy Mystery Suspense, Books that are dark and will have you at the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next, then this book is for you。 I would also recommend listening to the audiobook because Susan Dalian did a fabulous job bringing this story to life。Happy Reading!!!Find out more here: http://bit。ly/NBReviewTGL 。。。more

Great thriller by A。R。 Torre! A little different from The Ghostwriter, to be sure, but I had fun reading this one!! Lots of twists and turns and dark characters - never know who you can trust - and I love it!

Alison

Very graphic and disturbing- but kept me on the edge of my seat as to who did it and what was the motive。 A little far fetched at the end。

Mary Sue Wilson

Very GoodThis well written novel was difficult to put down。 It is a combination of a psychiatrist and lawyer solving a serial killer case。 There is some foul language and sexual exploits as well as gory details of violence and torture。It is also the story of grieving patents。

4。5 stars。 Fantastic read! I ate up this boo and couldn’t put it down。 I loved it!The only reason it’s not a 5 star book is because I have a weak stomach and this book is graphic and disturbing。 I couldn’t go outside in the dark without my husband while reading it because I was so freaked out。 Be warned!

Shianne

3。75/4。 I liked the mystery。

Theresa Kobylka

The book would have been more interesting if there was a deeper dive into the killers psychology Also the reason the killer was seeking help seemed odd when you finally learn the truth。 Otherwise it was a decent story。
